1. Who is responsible
Fritz doebel operates BrainSober and is responsible for the processing described in this policy. You can contact us at privacy@brainsober.app for privacy questions or requests.
2. Information that stays on your device
BrainSober stores your Screen Time selection tokens, protection plan, Brain Energy, Focus Credits, activity history, settings, and related progress on your device or in Apple’s private App Group storage shared by the BrainSober app and its Screen Time extensions.
Apple’s Family Activity picker does not give BrainSober the human-readable names of the apps you select. BrainSober does not upload your selection tokens, protection rules, or detailed Screen Time activity history to our servers.
3. Information processed by service providers
Product analytics
We use PostHog to understand how the app performs and which product flows are useful. It may process product interaction events, other usage events, an anonymous installation identifier, app version, device or operating-system information, locale, and basic diagnostics. We do not send Family Activity tokens or readable selected-app identities. Person profiles, element autocapture, and session replay are disabled.
Subscriptions and purchases
Apple processes App Store payments. RevenueCat helps provide and restore subscription access, and Superwall presents subscription offers. These providers may process purchase history, product identifiers, transaction or receipt information, subscription status, and an anonymous app-user identifier for app functionality.
BrainSober does not provide user accounts. Analytics and subscription records use app or installation identifiers rather than your name or email. These identifiers can associate events and purchases with the same installation; they are not fully anonymous data.
Apple Ads attribution
Versions with Apple Ads attribution use Apple’s AdServices framework to measure whether an App Store ad led to an installation. Apple receives a short-lived attribution token, and RevenueCat may receive the token to obtain attribution for subscription reporting. PostHog receives the attribution result and available campaign, ad group, keyword, ad, placement, campaign country, and conversion identifiers, associated with the app’s installation identifier. This lets us understand onboarding drop-off and subscription conversion from our Apple Ads campaigns.
Apple Ads measurement uses standard attribution without requesting the advertising identifier (IDFA) or App Tracking Transparency permission. The app does not send raw attribution tokens or ad engagement timestamps to PostHog. We do not use these Apple Ads records to build cross-app advertising profiles.
Optional Meta advertising measurement
BrainSober 0.1.0 does not send app events to Meta. In later versions with Meta measurement enabled, BrainSober asks for Apple’s App Tracking Transparency permission before initializing Meta’s SDK or sharing advertising identifiers and app events with Meta. Permission is optional; declining does not prevent onboarding, subscribing, or using BrainSober.
After permission is granted, Meta’s SDK may process the advertising identifier, an app-instance identifier, device and operating-system information, app activation, and limited events indicating onboarding start, subscription-offer viewing, checkout start, and onboarding completion. The SDK may also process technical diagnostics, including crash information. RevenueCat collects the advertising identifier, vendor identifier, and IP address for attribution. Its Meta integration may share subscription events, product and transaction identifiers, purchase amount and currency, a hashed app-user identifier, and matching identifiers to measure advertising results. RevenueCat is the sole sender of BrainSober subscription revenue events to Meta.
BrainSober does not send questionnaire answers, Family Activity selection tokens, readable selected-app identities, protection rules, or detailed Screen Time history to Meta. We do not supply names, email addresses, or phone numbers for advertising matching.
You can withdraw tracking permission in iOS Settings. After detecting withdrawal, BrainSober stops new Meta SDK event collection and clears the advertising identifiers it supplies to RevenueCat. Updating RevenueCat requires an internet connection, and requests already in progress or events previously received may still be processed. RevenueCat’s Meta integration requires authorized ATT consent for delivery. Withdrawal does not recall information already sent; contact us about deletion requests using the address below.
Enabled versions also use Apple’s SKAdNetwork for aggregate advertising measurement without the IDFA or a user identifier in the conversion value. This reports limited milestones, such as viewing a subscription offer or completing a purchase. Apple controls reporting windows and privacy thresholds. This aggregate measurement does not depend on granting tracking permission.
AppsFlyer analytics and optional advertising measurement
In versions with AppsFlyer measurement enabled, we use AppsFlyer for limited app analytics and to measure Apple Ads, Meta and X advertising. AppsFlyer sessions begin after your Apple tracking-permission choice has resolved. Declining does not prevent onboarding, subscribing or using the app. Without tracking permission, the SDK does not collect the advertising or vendor identifier, and we block sharing SDK data with ad networks. AppsFlyer may still receive an installation identifier, app launches, four limited onboarding and checkout events, technical device and network information including IP address, and approximate location derived from IP for our analytics and fraud prevention. Launch or battery performance information may also be processed for fraud prevention.
With tracking permission, AppsFlyer may also process advertising and vendor identifiers and share configured attribution data with Meta and X. RevenueCat may send subscription events, product and transaction identifiers, purchase amount and currency, its generated app-user identifier, and matching identifiers to AppsFlyer. AppsFlyer may forward configured paid subscription events to X. RevenueCat is our sole subscription-revenue sender to AppsFlyer. Meta subscription events continue through RevenueCat’s existing direct integration, rather than being sent a second time through AppsFlyer. Native Apple Ads attribution remains separate from this permission.
We do not send questionnaire answers, Family Activity selection tokens, readable selected-app identities, protection rules or detailed Screen Time history to AppsFlyer or X. We do not supply names, email addresses or phone numbers for advertising matching.

After detecting withdrawal, BrainSober disables new SDK advertising and vendor identifier collection, blocks SDK partner sharing, and removes the AppsFlyer identifier supplied to RevenueCat to suppress new AppsFlyer subscription forwarding. Limited first-party analytics described above continue. Updating RevenueCat requires an internet connection, so requests already in progress or previously received may still be processed. Withdrawal cannot recall information already sent. Contact our privacy address for requests about previously collected information.
Enabled versions may send copies of Apple’s aggregate SKAdNetwork postbacks to AppsFlyer. These use Apple’s privacy-preserving reporting and do not contain the IDFA or a user identifier in the conversion value. Apple controls reporting windows and privacy thresholds. BrainSober maintains one conversion-value writer; this aggregate route is separate from consented device-level attribution.
4. Permissions
- Screen Time: required to let you privately select apps, monitor user-configured thresholds, and display protective shields.
- Notifications: optional and used only for reminders and status alerts that you enable.
- Tracking: optional in versions with advertising measurement enabled, and used for the Meta, AppsFlyer and X advertising measurement described above.
You can change these permissions in iOS Settings.
5. The BrainSober website
This website does not use advertising cookies or behavioral analytics. Our hosting provider, Vercel, may process standard request information such as IP address, browser information, requested pages, timestamps, and security logs to deliver and protect the site. If we add website analytics or a mailing list later, we will update this policy before doing so.
6. Why we process information
We process limited information to provide requested app functionality, maintain subscriptions, keep the app secure, diagnose problems, improve product performance, and measure advertising results. Optional advertising tracking through Meta, AppsFlyer and X relies on your consent. Limited first-party AppsFlyer analytics do not share data with advertising partners when tracking permission is declined. Where applicable law requires a legal basis for other processing, we rely on performance of our contract, our legitimate interests in operating and improving BrainSober, consent where required, and compliance with legal obligations.
7. Sharing and sale
We do not sell personal information. We share the limited information described above with Apple and service providers that operate hosting, analytics, subscription, and paywall functionality, and with Meta, AppsFlyer and X for advertising measurement under the conditions above. We may also disclose information when required by law, needed to protect rights and safety, or involved in a business reorganization subject to appropriate safeguards.
8. Retention and deletion
Local information remains until you reset it in the app or delete the app. Service providers retain limited analytics, security, and purchase records according to their configured retention periods and legal obligations. Apple maintains transaction records under its own policies.
To request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or objection where those rights apply, email privacy@brainsober.app. We may need limited information to verify and fulfill the request. Some purchase records may need to be handled directly through Apple.
9. International processing
Our service providers may process information in countries other than the one where you live. Where required, transfers are protected through recognized legal safeguards such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect the information processed for BrainSober. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
11. Children
BrainSober is a general-audience productivity and wellbeing app and is not directed to children below the age at which they can consent to data processing in their country. If you believe a child has provided information contrary to applicable law, contact us so we can review the request.
12. Changes and contact
